You

I remember the first time we met
You introduced yourself with that cheeky smirk of yours
“Can we be friends?”
We became inseparable
You were the Lucas to my Haley

I remember the day B broke my heart
You picked me up from class
I spent the entire afternoon crying on your couch
I only stopped when I fell asleep
You went to school the next day and broke his nose

I remember when this girl bullied me in school
She and her friends weren’t happy that we were hanging out
You came over and took my hand in yours
You told her to think before she speaks
“Mess with her again and you’re in trouble”

I remember the day you asked me out
“Will you go out with me?”
I never felt my heart skip that way
When did I fall for you?
I didn’t expect myself to, but I did

I remember our first date at this fusion restaurant
We sat there and talked till closing time
It felt so different from before
Everything was so special
We went back every anniversary

I remember our first fight
You got angry and walked away
Left me at the bus stop in the middle of nowhere
I had to find my way back home alone
I cried for hours because I thought we were done

I remember you coming over after our fight
Brought my favorite ice cream
Apologized and said couldn’t stop saying sorry
You held me in your arms so tightly
Promised to never make me cry again

I remember every single moment
The happy, the sad, the whatever’s
Every hug you gave me
Every kiss we ever had
Every second our hands were interlaced

I remember the very last goodbye
“All I want is for you to be happy”
I couldn’t do anything for days
I had to be forced out of the house
My entire world fell apart

I don’t remember when I started to heal
Days, weeks, months, years went by
The pain became a memory, a phase
I started to feel again
I started to believe in love again

I remember today when I bumped into you
I almost forgot how deep your voice sounded
How captivating your smile is
How your eyes can touch the souls of others
How just being around you makes people happy

I remember all the pain
All the anger and all the tears
But through all that also the joy
The comfort of loving and being loved
So I vowed to myself to never forget you
